How Often Lifting Equipment should be Thoroughly Inspected?

One of the most asked questions which have no single answer is what an inspection is and how they are conducted? According to the Middle East and Australian standards, there are two major classifications of inspection-In-service inspection and periodic inspection.

In-service Inspection

This type of inspection is visual inspections which are conducted before each use. In-serve inspection implies that before each lifting operation, the operator and operation supervisor should have a proper check of the equipment (like chain slings, lifting hooks and cranes) to make sure that there is no defect, damage or war and the equipment is fit and legible to be used.

Lifting gear manufacturers in Dubai ensure getting their lifting gear thoroughly inspected. If they happen to notice any defects, they withdraw the suspected equipment from the lifting operation and send a written report of an inspection to the concerned authority.

The in-service inspection must only be conducted by a competent person. He should be able to make a decision on whether to repair, use or discard the equipment completely.

Periodic Inspections

This type of lifting examination or inspections refers to a more careful and detailed inspection. The Periodic inspection takes consideration as to whether the equipment is adequately cleaned and examined in a well-lit location. A periodic inspection must only be conducted by a competent person; he must be a professional who has been properly trained. Inspector should have good vision, and he must have relevant experience.

Periodic inspections need to be thoroughly documented, so the inspector must write a written report of the examination conducted, he should mention the defects or flaws found during the inspection and send the report to the concerned authority. Lifting gear in UAE are all thoroughly examined and sent for both In-service and periodic inspections.

Conclusion
Depending upon the equipment type, this equipment should be thoroughly inspected at regular intervals. As per Lifting gear manufacturers in Dubai, different equipment requires different types of inspection tests. Also, they specify the specific period of varying months between inspections. For example- chain slings should have periodic inspection in every three months. While the Winches, Blocks, and hoist should be inspected every six months.
